Our History

Geyer’s Sunbury Newsagency has been owned and operated by our family since 1932.

William and Ellen Davies bought the business in 1932 and operated the business until they moved to Geelong and their daughter Glenise and her husband Ron Geyer took over operation of the Newsagency on September 1st 1951. The store at that time sold many and varied items from newspapers and magazines, drinks, ice creams and Herbert Adams cakes to bikes, toys football jumpers and even gum boots. The store even had a library and a dentist’s chair to accommodate the dentist’s monthly visits to town.

Back then the store was run by Ron, Glenise and Bill; Glenise’s brother. Ron and Bill used to begin the early mornings at 6.45am, pack the newspapers into Hessian bags and set off to deliver the entire town on push bikes.

Glenise passed away suddenly in 1974 but I’m sure she would be proud of her family’s Newsagency as it is today.

The original weatherboard store was demolished in 1983 to make way for the present building which was opened in 1986.

All of the Ron and Glenise’s five children have worked in the store at some stage. When they were young they all had paper rounds. Brendan stayed on for many years assisting Ron in Managing the store. Ron’s daughter Jennifer is currently managing the store on behalf of the family. Some of Ron’s grandchildren are also part of the staff currently employed at the store.

Over the years we have had many valued employees who have made wonderful contributions to our family business. Lorraine Crisp was employed at our store for over thirty years and managed the store for several years and Dawn Moore is an assistant Manager and has been employed here for over twenty years. We thank them for assisting us in the task of operating our business with their commitment to hard work and their passion for the Newsagency business.

It is through marvellous employees like Lorraine and Dawn and the other staff who have been with us over the years that we have been fortunate to have been recognized with some wonderful awards such as Australian Newsagency of the year and also Tattersalls Superseller of the year award.

Our aim has always been to offer an excellent range of quality products at a reasonable price whilst offering convenience as well as great customer service. We value the customers who support our business and invite them to become privileged members of our Geyer's Gold Card Club.
